The Town’s beloved Farmers’ Days celebration was cancelled in response to COVID-19 this year, but that has not stopped the Mayor’s Task Force on COVID-19 - Social Stream from keeping the tradition going. Farmers’ Days is making a comeback, but with a celebrate-from-home feel to accommodate public health orders.

After reviewing the impacts of COVID 19 on the Town’s services and finances, the Town has made decisions that require temporary lay-offs and changes to its workforce. COVID 19 and the Public Health Directives regarding facility closures and social distancing have affected the Town since early March and this impact is expected to be ongoing through 2020.
Effective April 21, 2020, the Government of Alberta will be temporarily suspending applications for the $30 million in emergency social services funding to charities, not-for-profits and civil society organizations to support their COVID-19 response. Government has received over 600 applications.
With the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 on the community, the need for social cohesion and resiliency has never been more important. The newly formed Mayor’s Task Force on COVID-19 – Social Stream has been established to prioritize the wellness of the community during this time of uncertainty.
Downtown Redevelopment is scheduled to begin at the end of April. Fences will be set up beginning April 27th and will remain in place until the end of the construction season.

Any given day of the week, the Stony Plain Youth Centre (SPYC) is an active hub where the youth of Stony Plain and Parkland County gather to learn new skills or just hang out with friends. This safe place for all youth was required to close the doors suddenly on March 16th to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Recognizing that neighbours are our most powerful resource, Stony Plain Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is launching a Neighbourhood Connect project to support, inspire and further connect neighbours and neighbourhoods. .
COVID-19 is creating uncertainty in our community and residents may feel worried and isolated. In response, Stony Plain Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is launching Caring Hearts Connection to assist residents in Stony Plain and Parkland County to navigate supports and services during this crisis.
